The creation of a model Oncology Center in Larissa is on track

Common front of self-governing and university students in a meeting in the Region of Thessaly. Kuretas: Our goal is to tender it in 2024



A working meeting with the medical scientific community on the topic of creating a model molecular Oncology Center in Larissa, had Regional Governor of Thessaly Dimitris Kouretas and the Mayor of Larissa Thanasis Mamakos, in the former's office.

In the thorough discussion held by the Regional Governor of Thessaly Dim. Kouretas announced his proposal to allocate an amount of 6 million euros to the PEP of Thessaly and to the Public Research Infrastructure Action, in order for Larissa and Thessaly to acquire a model molecular Oncology Center, which will combine basic clinical research with modern health and care services patients.

The Mayor of Larissa Athanasios Mamakos announced the intention of the municipal authority to grant an area belonging to the Municipality to the University of Thessaly, so that the Center can be housed in the premises of the University Hospital.

There followed an exchange of views regarding the procedures to be followed to implement the goal, which according to Dim. Curetta is to tender the Center in 2024.

Representatives of the medical community emphasized the necessity of creating the Oncology Center, which will offer upgraded health services to patients and pledged to support the initiative they undertook together the Regional Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Kouretas and the Mayor of Larissa, Mr. Mamakos.

In the next period, the actions required by the university community will be specified in order to submit the request to the Region of Thessaly for the Center's inclusion in the Thessaly PEP , while as soon as the road map of the initiatives is finalized there will be a new meeting and press conference.

The president of the Medical School, Professor of Orthopedics Theofilos Karahalios, the Dean, Professor of Pulmonology Kostas Gourgoulianis, the head of the School of Medicine participated in the meeting of the Scientific Council of the University Hospital, Professor of Hematology Giorgos Vasilopoulos, Vice Chancellor and Professor of Nephrology Yannis Stefanidis, Professor of Oncology Thanos Kotsakis, Director of the Department of Surgery, Professor of Surgery K. Tepetes, the president of the Regional Innovation Research Council of Thessaly, Professor of Biochemistry Dimitris Le onidas as well as Executive Director of the Region of Thessaly Lazaros Makris.
